The start of another new year is upon us. It's hard to believe that 2012 is already almost in the past!
Every year I make a list of "New Year's GOALS".   Not RESOLUTIONS.

I also make it a point to write them in pencil.

This year the goals are:
                                                                 1.) Clean up my food
                                                                 2.) Make more ORIGINAL art
                                                                 3.) Declutter
4.) Continue to improve my computer skills
Notice please, exercise is not on the list. For 2 years in a row, I've managed to make it to the gym on a regular basis. Food (unfortunately) is back ON the list... My eating is totally out of control.

A very Happy New Year to all.

The above journal pages are for the "Schizophrenic  Journaling" class.
I got to use glitter.   :)
Date: January 12th
Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Well, Christmas is almost here. Once again I have totally lost track of time.
I really thought it was this coming Thursday.
What is happening to the time these days? Did we loose an entire week into a black hole?
Just yesterday was Thanksgiving!

These were some holiday gift bags for a wonderfully fun gift exchange,
that I was invited to this year. I loved the glittered acorns tied to the top,
thanks to the huge oak trees in front of LA Fitness!

This ornament is Daffy Duck. I know he doesn't look like Daffy. His sponge
"beak" wore off years (and YEARS) ago. See, I had Daffy on OUR family tree when I was
around 3 years old!

Even the birds got into the Christmas spirit!!!

Our trees went to an all white light theme this year. I kind of missed the multi-colored
lights, but the white is very soft and pretty too.

The antler chandelier was also switched over all white.

More all white decoration. I love these two angels. They are from one of my
favorite stores, that has since (I purchased them) has closed down.
It was a very sad day for me. :(

And the last "decorations" picture... This year we ran candles up to the top of the fireplace.
The candles in the foreground are distressed old spindles that have been
given new life as candle holders.

To all my friends and family, I'm wishing you all a wonderful Christmas.
Hold your loved ones close.
Tell them you love them.
A lot.

It's beginning to feel like Christmas!!!
The above wreath was made from an old mirror in a former life.
The greenery is from "Michaels" 60% off sale.
Now, the mirror has been
re purposed to become decorations for our front door.

This is the "bird nest table. I tried for a "white" look.
Hmmm, don't know if I pulled it off, or not.

The above bird (on the right) is the one from last Sunday's post.
She found a home on the bird nest table.

Looking forward to seeing all our friends over the holiday's.
Especially all my "girl's" this Friday night!

Bird re-do.

I bought this wooden bird from "Old Time Pottery". It cost me $4.99 . Actually,
I bought two of them... They've been kicking around
for a long time, waiting for a makeover.

Today I started working on one of them. I love the look of collage, so I
covered the entire bird and stand with multiple papers.

When I finished, I sprinkled it with clear glitter.

I think she turned out cute.
My plan is to put her into one of the Christmas "scape's"
along with some matching trees.

If EVER there was a case for "Like mother like daughter" or vice versa...
this has to be it. Mom took a picture of HER head and put it on the
body of a beautiful model that Bob had taken a photo with.
What a coincidence! My last blog posting (see post for last week)
was all about putting my head on a different body! And she hadn't even read
that post yet! I swear we are too closely alike!

off with her head!

One of the things I like to do is take a photo of myself and put it on the head of something or someone else. I know that 'photoshop' is an easier way to do this, however, I'm not good at the computer so I do it the old fashion way of using an actual photo.

I used a photo (from another journaling assignment) took it to kinko's and had it copied onto regular paper. It's important that the 'head' you use is the same size as the one you are substituting it for. I use regular paper and not photo paper because I need to paint over the top of it. Photo paper will not allow you to paint over the top (too slick) and you need to be able to "apply"  (paint on) makeup!  Next,  I cut off the models head and slide and position my head until it's where I want it.
Glue into place.

The papers, lace, collage, stenciling, stamping and arranging takes place next.

The finished journal page is done.
I am wearing this gorgeous dress and really cool "ruff",
the neck piece that was popular in the 1500's.
I think next I'm going to put my head on a Victoria Secrets model!

A new angel.

Next class, Nov. 17th 10:00 AM- 1:00 PM
at Paper Niche.
Fun... I promise.

It's all about techniques!

Today's class was all about technique. We are getting over the fear of
just plain, good old playing with paper and paint.

These girls have NO fear of color, that's for sure!
I love it!

It's hard to see, the one above was all metallics.

I am so challenged to break out more color! These girls
find the brightest and the most intense colors and
just go to town.

Also great use of color combinations.

Who would have thought these combinations
would look so happy together?
Super fun class.
I'm loving this!

Don't forget to play.

This weeks class, Saturday Nov. 3rd, is layering papers, paint and textures.

I've been experimenting using the Faber-Castell monochromatic color sets.
Love them!!!

My favorite in the package was the 'Gelato', followed closely by the
'artist pen big brush'. The turquoise/colbalt combination
of pens, pencils, Gelatos and such... were wonderful!
Can't wait to play!

Journals of Art???

I'm feeling inspired tonight. Today's class was wonderful.
These fabulous women make me want to make art.

The above stamp "Her art disturbed her." is one of my favorites.
My art does disturb me. I'm in a constant argument with myself...
"Is this really art?"

These women validate me.

When I cut off my head and attach it to
some poor models body, my friends from art class say
"Hey, that's art!".

Going (not so ) confidently "in the direction of my dreams" takes
courage. "Living the life you've imagined." is not very easy.
This class helps me move forward.
The women give me confidence.
And courage.

Showing people your weird work and having them
support you, is one of the most fulfilling
experiences I know.

Because believe me,
my journals are weird.

My art still disturbs me.

Now though,  I realize that others like to make weird stuff too.
So when I cut off my head, (like in the above photo) and attach it
to some "Juicy" model,
other   (like minded "artists")
don't think I'm too strange.
They want to make weird art too.
Thank you ladies, for today's class.
I had a blast.

Nest of Gratefuls

It's been a funky kind of few weeks.
Seems like 'things'  kind of converge at the same time.
Issues that affect the way you feel about your life, your health, your stability.

Times like these, it's important to take stock of your "gratefuls".
My journal working (this week) called out for cardboard.

Cardboard and stencils and layers of paint and stamps ...

The egg floats above a nest full of my "gratefuls". The sweet little bird looks out over the view on her little branch made from old book pages twisted into shape.    Looking through old books trying to locate certain words that I love and need in my life, brought about a sweet new appreciation for my life.

This two page project will be taught next Sunday at Paper Niche, at 10:00 AM for 3 hours.

Join me in working on your "Gratefuls" for the coming Thanksgiving season. :)

Wha???? I forgot to blog!

How did I miss posting my blog this last Sunday? I didn't even think of it!

 New post for October...
These are a couple of pages from my art journal for my
"Schizophrenic Journaling" class.
I'm teaching the "how to" this Saturday at
Paper Niche in Davie.

I really like the fence. There is a tool called a "Cricket" that cuts these out for you.
That is really great because it's a real pain in the rear to cut these out yourself with an
exacto knife. If you even could...
We will paint this sweet moon face and the pumpkins are also painted.
EASY. I swear it! I'll give you a template if you want.
or maybe not... I may make you paint it without one.
(wicked grin)
The crows are all stencils. There is stamping and painting and gluing.

Join me Saturday for much merriment!
