Courage to fly ~ next class

I pulled my back out Friday night.
How is it that on my day(s) off, I'm laying flat on my back.
I mean seriously... I'm fine Monday through Thursday while
I'm at work, then finally the weekend arrives and I'm messed up.
i hate that.
I did get to put the finishing touches
on the next "Schizophrenic  Journaling" class.
We will be working with
Claudine Hellmuth's Studio gesso
for the raised stencil effects.
Remember, this is a techniques class!
We learn HOW to do things!

As usual, you get to use your choice of papers, stencils,
stamps and the main painting in the center.
This is YOUR journal!
I'm using the little purple bird, however there
are many different things to use. I'll bring them all.
You bring the supply list, shown at the below address.
Class is February 16th at 10:00AM~1:00PM. See you at

Working with stencils and gesso.

I'm working with 'claudine hellmuth's' Studio gesso.
I am loving it. It is gesso, but with a little more paste
than what I'm used to working with. As a result, I'm
getting  a really nice raised stencil effect.

I positioned the stencil where I wanted it. Next I
scooped on about a tablespoon of gesso and smoothed it
down with an old credit card. Remove the stencil and
there it is! I used a smaller stencil for her crown.

Paint a layer of mod pog over both pages.
Next came layers of paper, painting the girl, more stencils,
walnut ink (splattered on with a tooth brush) and add the words
or message of your choice.
I'm listening to the message in my head.
Happy new week to everyone.

I love getting this in the mail!

Such a sweet surprise! This is a piece I submitted last year.
I thought there were no more left to be published ~ but then they
asked if they could put one more of my submissions into one of their magazines.
Heck ya!!!

Always a wonderful treat!
A huge thank you to Stampington & Company for
keeping me in mind for their publications.

This is the next class I'm teaching at Paper Niche.
The main colors were the "gelatos",  a prepack of 4 colors, 3 shades of blue and one purple.
Love them!
If you feel courageous, you can draw the horse yourself.
If you want extra help, I will have a stencil for a guide.
Look for this class sometime in February.
Bring your journal!

A good stencil...

I've collected a lot of stencils over the years. I believe this one is a Jan Dressler.
The head board was one we found dumpster diving. It's surprising how many
of this type of head board gets thrown into the garbage.

I've used this stencil shape in many different projects, from furniture to art work. I finished off the above head board with a crackle paint.

The above picture is the same stencil only this time I used it on an old shelf.

This is another headboard found in the garbage.
I painted this one black and stenciled it in metallic golds.

Kinda hard to see this similar stencil shape in this above journal entry.
The main difference is this one is small enough to use in art work.

One last "scrolly" stencil. This is actually the same one that was used in the
journal page (above) with the girls face, only this one I used on a TV hutch that I painted.

I can't get this same effect using paint. I love the clean lines the stencils
have and blending the colors is also made much easier.
Fun stuff.
